Mara and Me

I've been busy this month spending time with friends, reading and doing some light knitting. I started this next project the same week that my friend Katy came to town. We had a fantastic afternoon/evening sitting in the hammock reading/knitting/snacking together while listening to music. It was such a nice day that I didn't want it to end. But end it did.

This past week has been bright and cheery filled with the making of cookies (by my MIL), making Green Tomato Relish (with my MIL), making of bread, cleaning, finishing two books and preparing for a party that we're hosting tomorrow night (for our baseball team) Our team ended up in last place, but we had such a great team. So here's a toast to my team for being so supportive (even when I struck out!).

I'll be getting some cans of the Green Tomato Relish later. If anyone is interested in the recipe, e-mail me!

Yarn: Mystery yarn, acquired at a yarn swap from Sulicat

How is it Tomorrow Already?

It seems like only yesterday that I made that last post! Things have been hurtling themselves into the future with alarming speed.

This past weekend we were up in Saskatchewan by Pierce Lake Lodge doing some camping with some new friends. It was so nice to get out of the city and enjoy the water again. The weather wasn't co-operating as much as we were hoping for, but we didn't get rained on. We even managed (in our infinite skill) to pick enough Saskatoon berries to make 2 (2!!!) pies out there! I made my orange cakes again. I don't think I could have eaten any more that day.

The weekend before that we were in Canmore for hiking and visiting. It was beautiful! We did the Ptarmigan Cirque. At the top of the trail, nestled in the valley, are tons of rocks that have fossils in them as that part of the mountains used to be in the water! Amazing!

My hubby and I also celebrated our first anniversary this weeked. We had the house to ourselves for a change and enjoyed every moment of it. We watched TV. I know, not entirely romantic, but it was nice just to sit and relax (after unpacking from camping) and be in each others presence. Last night we went out to the Keg for dinner to celebrate. AND because I'm weird/thoughtful/strange (insert something here) I made desert when we got home. We have some fantastic Peach-Rasberry Crumble. I had to tell him that it was terrible, just aweful, that he really wouldn't like it... but I can't lie to save my life! *lol*

I hope that everyone out there in internet land are enjoying their summer and everything that goes with it. I'm hoping to get back on track soon! Pictures are promised for the next post!

Ishbella Blue

Another satisfying knit completed! In only 5 days! I was told that this pattern knits up fast, but I didn't quite believe it. The only thing that held me back from getting it done sooner is that I missed a YO and couldn't find where I had made my mistake. Oops! Ah well, just glad that I found it!

Pattern: Ishbel by Ysolda Teague

Yarn: The Plucky Knitter Silk Merino Fingering

Colour:Nora Charles (inspired by Myrna Loy's character in The Thin Man Series)

I'm sorry to report the death of my peonies, may they rest in their pieces as they scatter in the winds. We had a huge storm last week which wrecked trees (and cars) and the wind thrashed its way through the neighbourhoods of my city. I was at a party that night (for a friends birthday) when the storm hit. After the initial onslaught, a group of us went out to clear the streets of debry. It felt nice to do something good, but also kind of scary as you didn't know when the storm was going to hit again (as it would later). My car got a little damaged, but nothing compared to what could have happened, thank goodness.

Last weekend was the end of Taste of Edmonton. DH and I almost missed it, which would have been really sad. It was the first outing that we had last year when I first moved down and I would be more then happy to make it an annual event for us to attend. We tried a delectable variety of dishes from many new and old restaurants in town. I have to admit that the Crab Cakes from The Hat were the best. I just recently discovered that The Hat Resto Pub is a restaurant that I used to go to when it was called The Silk Hat... ohmygod best burgers I ever had. Nothing compared... but it had closed and is now under new ownership/management (yay me!)

Nothing really new to report... had a really bad day at work and am now home safe and sound. Reports of my demise (in any fashion) are seriously overrated. I think a bottle of red would be good tonight.

So Cheers to you all. Have a lovely long weekend and hopefully by the end of it I'll have some more pictures for you all!

Summer Heat

I know that the summer has only just begun in most part... but for alberta it has been quite damp and it feels like we are just getting into the summers' heat. I haven't been doing a lot of knitting, but more reading of late... and smelling of my flowers. I'd love to admit that I put them there and that it's all my doing, but it wasn't and I didn't. They are just beautiful to behold.

Cheers to the summer heat. May it stay a while. =)
